In case you just popped onto our site, or found this post by accident, I'll let you know who I am and what BridgePath Prep is all about, then I'll get in to the nitty-gritty of my experience at the 2025 FPEA homeschool convention in Orlando.
My name is Dr. Marla Friedman and I'm the Founder of BridgePath Prep. For the past 27 years I've worked in a variety of positions as college professor, director of a private school, and an author. In 2024 I realized there was a growing need for support and guidance in the homeschool space. So this is why I signed up to attend the 2025 FPEA Homeschool Convention that just took place in Orlando, FL.
With that out of the way, let's talk about what I found out while I mingled with homeschool parents and talked with experts and vendors in the homeschool industry.
Florida’s Governor, DeSantis Speaks on School Choice
One of the most powerful moments of the 2025 homeschool conference was hearing the Governor of Florida speak about the importance of school choice. I couldn't agree more!
His words affirmed what so many families already know: that education should never be one-size-fits-all. The ability to tailor learning to a child’s needs is not just a privilege, it’s a right that we have as parents.
His message underscored why platforms like BridgePath Prep are so vital in today’s educational landscape. With public support and growing options for homeschoolers, families need clear and confident guidance now more than ever. More and more parents are deciding to take the leap into homeschooling but many find themselves struggling during the high school years because there is a lot on the line.
Since Covid, there has been a growing shift away from public school enrollment into homeschool. I guess that event showed us that even as a parent working full time, homeschool is possible. It just takes creativity and dedication. With guidance from organizations like BridgePath Prep, parents are now finding they've got all the resources at their fingertips to successfully help their kids get a more personalized, supported education.
Parents Had Questions - I Had the Answers
Over 12,000 parents attended the homeschool convention. That, in itself, is crazy!
Homeschool has grown dramatically over the last few years and as far as I can tell, it will keep going. But here's the thing.
With more homeschool families comes more questions.
I talked with parent after parent who had questions about homeschooling during high school. I had parents asking me how they should plan their child's 4-years of high school to set them up for college, some were confused about GPA, a lot didn't know that dual-enrollment during high school was even an option. Others asked about AP courses during high school.
These were all great questions, and to be honest, these questions confirmed that I am on the right track with BridgePath.

According to a recent article by the National Home Education Research Institute, "roughly 6% of school-aged kids are educated at home. In 2021-2022, the number of homeschooled kids grew from 2.5 million in 2019 to 3.1 million! That's a huge jump. Just 2 years after that, in 2024, the number is somewhere around 3.7 million.
Year-after-year, there is a steady growth of families choosing homeschool.
With a growing demand comes a growing market of vendors offering services, curriculum, support, and tools for homeschool families.
But here's the thing...
Out of everyone I met at the convention, BridgePath Prep is the ONLY organization that acts as the guidance counselor for homeschool families.
